Von Iva

San Francisco's Von Iva is renowned for their bombastic shows by playing LIVE dance music that continues to capture even the most jaded music fan's attention. After putting out their first full-length record, Our Own Island, the band toured nationally, happily finding the local crowds getting bigger each time through.

Currently Von Iva have recorded a yet-to-be-titled collection of new songs, including plans for limited issue vinyl with expanded dance remixes. This summer the band heads out with Girl in a Coma (Blackheart Records), Astra Heights (Myspace feature artist), and then headlines the estrogen-fueled Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. Catch the band at these intimate club shows before they make their big screen debut in the forthcoming Warner Bros. film, Yes Man starring Jim Carrey.

The band's distinctive style caught the ear of ace music supervisor Jonathan Karp (Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad, Knocked Up) and director Peyton Reed who hired Von Iva to write and perform four original songs with indie darling Zoey Deschanel. The resulting fictional art-wave band will make its public debut when the film premieres December 18, a prime holiday blockbuster slot.

Von Iva's broad appeal ranges from coast to coast, connecting with both high and low brow audiences. 2008's diverse tour stops include SXSW, Warped Tour, 924 Gilman (birthplace of Green Day) as well as cultural institutions like the DeYoung Museum and Macworld; GLBT dance parties at Cake Shop in New York and headlining a Midwestern amphitheater at CD101 Day festival in Columbus, OH.

The adjective "power trio" is understated when describing the women of Von Iva. Singer Jillian Iva gathers inspiration from Tina Turner and Mary J. Blige, belting out her own unique style of soul powered vocals. Iva has the capability to transform a room of party goers into possessed devotees with her swagger and stage presence. Keyboardist Becky Kupersmith fills all frequencies using various synths including Moog, Juno, Crumar, swirling Arp strings and a Deep Purple-inspired church organ. She manages to capture the thump and crunch ala Justice and MSTRKRFT sans laptop. Hard hitting Drummer Kelly Harris takes inspiration from late seventies disco as well as the greats of classic rock, banging out four on the floor beats and hard hip hop grooves on drums, sheet metal and various metal objects.

Von Iva's dance revival is awakening the masses... and these ladies are just getting started.
